About LA Brace Treatment
The LA Pectus Brace and LA Rib Flare Brace were specifically designed to optimize the effective of Pectus and rib flaring bracing in a low profile design that children and young adults will not mind wearing. Other braces are typically bulky and/or overly clinical looking and many kids are resistant to wearing them. The LA Pectus brace is predominantly plastic, is lighter and is less bulky.
Phase Of Treatment
LA Brace Pectus has three Phases of Treatment
Phase1
Remodeling of chest/ribs. The deformity is gradually reduced and the brace is continually tightened to accommodate the reduction in the size of the deformity. This phase can vary but on average is about 1 month
Phase2
Holding the correction 24/7 until the chest/ribs can maintain the shape (like a retainer in orthodontics). The length of this phase varies between 2 and 7 months depending on the orthotists determination of the patients needs.
Phase3
Holding the correction at night only to prevent recurrence of the deformity. This phase typically lasts 6-15 months.

About Pectus Carinatum
Pectus Carinatum (PC), sometimes referred to as “pidgeon chest” is a deformity of the chest characterized by an outwards protrusion of the chest. It occurs when the breast bone (sternum) is getting pushed outwards by the growth of the ribs and/or sternum itself. The cause of Pectus Carinatum is not fully understood but appears to be genetic. It develops during the growth spurts of adolescence children and it is more common in boys than girls in the ratio 3:1. PC is more rare than the other chest deformity called Pectus Excavatum (PE) in which the chest collapses inwards.
Bracing works much the same way orthodontic braces work to correct misaligned teeth.
In patients who have finished growing and have a moderate to severe PC, surgery might be the only option.
In patients who are still growing and have a very mild PC, exercises may be enough to prevent progression.
The LA Bracing technique is different to regular bracing.
